A Gospel-Centered Church
We are a Gospel-centered church. If you are a christian or have been to church before you have more than likely heard the word Gospel. The Gospel is the greatest news that anyone could ever hear. Scripture tells us that since the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden mankind has been incapable of reconciling ourselves back to God. Sin separated us from Him. But we not only have a sin problem we also have a death problem. The moment Adam sinned he began to die physically, but he also died a spiritual death. Spiritual death means eternal separation from God. So, in our helpless state God did what only He could do and made reconcliation for us. He did this by sending His son Jesus (who is also God) to earth by virgin birth to put on flesh and live a perfect life that none of us could live since Adam's fall. After Jesus lived a perfect life into manhood, He was tried and crucified for claiming to be God (which He is).
This was all according to God's plan because Christ's whole purpose of coming was to live a life we could never live (sinless) so that He could pay a debt that He did not owe (ours). WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? When Jesus was being crucified God placed OUR sin on Him and punished Him for OUR sin in OUR place! Martin Luther called this "The great Exchange" because Christ took our sin and gave us His righteousness (or right standing before God). Three days after He was crucified He was raised by the power of God. So, He died to our sin once and for all, but then resurrected overcoming the sin problem and the death problem. Now, those of us who put our trust in the work that He accomplished for us are set free from sin and death. When you truly trust your life to Jesus your spirit is brought from death to life meaning you will die physically but your spirit wil live with God for all of eternity.
That is the Gospel. The implications of this great work that God has done through Jesus is something that we must dwell on and remind ourselves of for all of our lives. At CrossPointe we believe that you are to continually preach this Gospel to yourself, because we are all prone to forget that God did someting we cannot do and start trying to save ourselves through our own work or through an idol (something we attach ourselves to or define ourselves by). We believe that the first commandment of the ten commandments spoke of "No other God's" for a reason and that reason is human hearts are idol factories. We become so easily entangled in "things" that can never be God and try to save ourselves through people who can never be Jesus.
You will constantly hear our church talking about this and all of our preaching will be Gospel-centered because we beleieve that the greatest news anyone could ever hear must be heard over and over again so that we never stop believeing it.
